Arts & Architecture Program - Courses

There are three different types of courses in the Arts & Architecture program.

  1. Core courses (12 weeks in length – 42 lecture hours – 3 credits)
  2. Elective courses (6 weeks in length – 28 lecture hours – 2 credits)
  3. Elective courses (3 weeks in length – 14 lecture hours – 1 credit)

Core Courses

All 12-week core courses meet twice a week for 90 minutes. Additional course hours are spent outside of the classroom at lectures, field trips, and walking city tours.

  1. Religion, Culture, and Politics of Central Europe (Required for all Students)
  2. 19th & 20th Century History of Central Europe (Required for all Students)
  3. The Central European City as a Work of Art
  4. History of Baroque Art & Architecture
  5. Central European Art – 1800 to 1950
  6. Art, Architecture and Ideology - Rises and Falls of Visual Culture under the Totalitarian Regime
  7. A Central European Journal - Experiences, Thoughts, and Feelings

6-week Elective Courses

All 6-week elective courses meet twice a week for 2 hours. Additional course hours are spent outside of the classroom at lectures, field trips, and walking city tours.

  1. Visual Culture of Central Europe
  2. Masterpieces of Central European Classical Music
  3. Contemporary Short Stories and Short Novels of Central Europe

3-week Elective Courses

All 3-week elective courses meet twice a week for two and quarter hours.

  1. Modern Central European Film: A Visual Journey Around Central Europe
  2. Special Topics in Art History
  3. Special Topic in Humanities
